Preludium psalm 35 Uploaded by: Jan Vermeulen Composer: * My Own Composition Organ: Müller Grote of Sint Bavo extended Software: Hauptwerk V Views: 91
I recently received this fine work from our member Jan Vermeulen (jlvermeulen), who was kind enough to give me the opportunity to play it.
The time I spent with the piece was MORE than worth it, and I think you will find it profound and penitential in a way that is both humble and exalted.
The melody is a Genevan Psalm-tune and the text is from Psalm 144 - "Wat is de mens? Wat is in hem te prijzen".
The English translation reads - Lord, what is man, that thou hast such respect unto him? * or the son of man, that thou so regardest him?
If you're listening to this and thinking, "This piece reminds me a LOT of Bach's "Schmücke dich, o liebe Seele, BWV 654," you're "association" between these pieces is correct, as Jan found inspiration and example for this work in the great Bach chorale.
The music is prayerful and heartfelt, and I feel the great Müller organ really blends with and enhances the effect.
As this piece will soon be published, I regret that I cannot share the score for it.
MANY THANKS for giving me the opportunity to record this, Jan. I hope you approve of my performance!
